Betty's Painting Classes
All Classes Cancelled due to illness

After learning the basics of painting, the best way to develop your own technique and skills is to spread your painting wings, not only by taking my classes but also try techniques of various teaching artist's. Like anything else we do it takes practice, practice and more practice like learning to swim, the more you do the better you get.
I know, we've all heard it but unfortunately not all of us were born gifted which is especially true for me.

My favorite medium is acrylic because of the ease in clean up and faster drying time, not to mention the great washes and vibrant colors. I also like the softness of watercolor all though they seem to have a mind of their own (laughing).

Most of all, have fun and you will enjoy "that special place" painting takes you for years to come. Remember, practice goes a long way and don't stop trying new mediums and techniques, that's how we grow but we have to come out of our comfort zone.

Getting started  :
After learning the techniques in this painting you will be want to paint more landscapes for sure! (Yes, you CAN paint and finish this one in 2 hrs! I'll show you how)
You will be putting what you have learned into practice painting other beautiful landscapes and may even want to paint scenery on site in the country.  We do have some beautiful country side.
I am planning a paint day in the spring and everyone that has taken this class will be invited to join for a day filled with fun painting our own interpretation of the natural landscape around us.  Bring a sack lunch :)  This special class can last up to 4 hours and will be a wonderful learning experience for all.

This painting makes the ideal learning tool... Look closely at this painting... you see sky, trees, shrub/foliage, bank around water, water, reflections, highlighting and shadowing. All of which you will learn and use on all your landscape paintings.

Happy Painting :)) Betty R

Landscapes/Scenes:

I am adding another painting to the list for landscapes. It will be a "Beach Scene", of rolling breaking waves with the moon shinning through it.
I have had interest in this type of painting so I will be offering this also.

I encourage students to pick what they would like to paint and I plan to have an 'Open Class' of painting whatever you want and give help to each person as needed to complete their work of art.
Contact me and let me know what Your interests are and I'll work on it and have it ready for your next class.

For canvas painting I prefer tube paints.
I like SoHo tube paints (jerrysartarama.com), they're easy to work with and I like the sheen they have similar to oil paints (that's just my preference, you can use any type of paints you want) in a palette with an air tight lid, this way if I need to stop for a while my paints will be fine for days.
My personal preference is the Masterson's palette, it works much better for me then anything else I have tried and cleans up nicely.
